Object | The Hybrid Collection — Two Materials, One Intention

Every design decision involves a negotiation. Between form and function, between what a thing looks like and what it needs to do, between the material that is beautiful and the material that holds up. Most bags resolve this negotiation by choosing one side — all leather for permanence, all canvas for lightness, all structure or all softness.

The Hybrid Tote made a different choice when it arrived last year. Leather and canvas. Two materials in conversation, each doing precisely what it does best in precisely the space where it belongs. The women who carry it already know this. They have been carrying it through full days, heavy weeks, the kind of use that tells you whether a bag was designed honestly or just designed.

It held up. And now it comes in a second size.

The Material Story

Leather and canvas. Visual contrast — the eye sees it immediately. Black leather above, cream canvas below. The leather brings structure, visual weight, and a surface that improves with age. The canvas introduces lightness — reducing the overall weight of the bag while creating a material tension that feels contemporary rather than casual. These are not two materials making compromises for each other. They are two materials in conversation, each more itself because of what sits beside it.

All leather in the Hybrid Collection is sourced from LWG Gold-certified tanneries — the highest environmental standard in leather production, independently verified. The certification was chosen not for the label but for what it requires: responsible water stewardship, chemical management, and a documented commitment to how materials age together over time, not just how they look when new.

The Three Pieces

The Tote 42 is the workhorse. It fits a laptop, a full day's accumulation, the things that a working week actually requires. The leather handles and trim carry the weight. The canvas body carries it lightly. It has been in the world since last year, carried by the women who needed it before we had the words for the collection it belongs to.

The Tote 32 is new. Same construction as the 42 — same black leather frame, same cream canvas body, same LWG Gold-certified leather, same logic of materials meeting at exactly the right boundary. What changes is the scale, and with it the entire rhythm of the day it suits.

The 42 was built for the day that asks everything. The 32 was built for the day that does not — the Friday that stays light, the weekend that requires something considered but not loaded, the morning where carrying the 42 would feel like a statement the day has not earned. It fits an iPad, a wallet, the essentials of a day that knows its own limits.

This is not a smaller version of the same bag. It is the same idea at a different scale — which is a more interesting thing to make, and a harder one.

The Tote 32 is available for pre-order now. Orders ship 20 April.

Both totes come with an inner pouch included — canvas lined, sized to sit cleanly inside the tote and keep the interior organised without adding weight. It is not an afterthought. It is part of how the bag works.

The Organizer Pouch 20 and Pouch 25 are separate pieces, sold independently for women who want to carry the pouch beyond the tote. Both are iPad-compatible — the 20 is the more compact of the two, the 25 gives slightly more room. Either works as a standalone carry for a lighter day, a minimal clutch for an evening, or an insert for any bag already in her wardrobe. The material pairing is the same as the totes — the leather and canvas story continues at a smaller scale.

Three products. One material pairing. A system that works together without requiring all of it at once.

Why Two Materials

A bag of the Tote 42's size and capacity in all leather would carry significantly more weight — both literally and visually. Full leather at this scale is a commitment to formality, to presence, to the physical effort of carrying something serious through a long day.

Canvas changes that equation without changing the bag's capability. It breathes. It softens against the body. It keeps the bag from feeling heavy even when it is full. The leather is reserved for the parts that need to be leather — the top frame that holds the structure, the base that takes the wear, the handles that carry everything. The canvas does the rest.

This is not a canvas bag with leather accents. It is a leather bag that has made room for ease.

And ease, it turns out, is not the opposite of quality. It is one of quality's most considered expressions.

The Contrast Is the Design

There is a moment when you hold the Hybrid Tote for the first time where the material shift registers as surprising — the transition from leather to canvas, from structured to soft, from the part that holds its shape to the part that gives. That surprise is not a flaw in the design. It is the design.

Contrast is rarely accidental in things made carefully. The black leather against the cream canvas is not incidental. It anchors the bag visually — prevents the canvas from reading as casual, prevents the leather from reading as heavy. Each material is more itself because of what it sits beside.

Simple in form. Interesting up close. Made to stay with you.

Who This Collection Is For

The Hybrid Collection was designed for two women who are often the same woman on different days.

The first needs a bag that works everywhere without asking her to think about it. Clean, versatile, quality-led. One bag for the full day, one for when she is travelling lighter. She wants the leather's permanence without its weight. She reaches for the Tote 42 when the day demands it and the Tote 32 when it does not.

The second notices things. She wears the bag as part of a considered aesthetic — wide trousers, long coats, relaxed layers, the Pouch 20 or 25 tucked inside or worn separately. She layers proportions with intention and chooses the collection because it rewards that attention.

Both find what they are looking for here. That is what a collection is for.
